My name is Hilda Alvarado, and on February 17, 2026, my husband Ramon Salazar and I were detained by ICE after being stopped by a state trooper who racially profiled us. We were both taken into custody, and I spent a month at the Montgomery ICE Processing Center. During that time, our eight daughters, the oldest being 20, had to stay alone without the support and care that my husband and I usually provide, both financially and emotionally. It was an incredibly stressful time, worrying about how my daughters would manage without us.
I was released on March 20, 2026, but I am not completely free. I have an ankle monitor and many restrictions, which make it difficult to find a job or even attend my daughters' school activities. My husband Ramon is still detained and was moved to the Joe Corley facility in Conroe, TX, on March 26, 2026. Since then, we have not been able to see or visit him. He is not receiving proper care for his diabetes, and the food provided is not suitable for his health needs. Ramon is the main source of income for our family, and without him, we have been struggling financially. I have been selling food on Saturdays to try to make ends meet, but it is not enough to support all of our expenses.
The funds raised will help us pay our bills, cover gas, and take care of school expenses for my daughters while my husband is still in custody and I face restrictions that make it hard to find a job. Thank you for the support during this difficult time.
