Support for Herman's Heart Procedure Journey
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart to share the story of my beloved cousin Val and her husband Herman, who are facing a daunting and life-threatening challenge. Herman has been diagnosed with Advanced Heart Failure (Cardiogenic Shock), a condition where his heart can no longer pump enough blood and oxygen to his brain and other vital organs. To give you an idea of the severity, a normal heart ejection fraction is between 55-70%, but Herman's is at a critically low 10%.
In the coming days, Herman will be undergoing a procedure to receive a Left Ventricle Assist Device (L-VAD), a mechanical pump that will help his heart pump blood. This device is a crucial lifeline to increase Herman's quality of life and hopefully slow down the progression of his heart failure. However, this procedure can't be performed in Las Vegas, where they live. Herman has been accepted into the advanced heart failure programs at both UC San Diego and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. While this is a ray of hope, it also means Valerie and Herman will have to travel and stay in either San Diego or Los Angeles for an extended period during his recovery.
The thought of being away from home, coupled with the immense stress of Herman's health condition, is overwhelming. Val is one of the strongest and most resilient people I know, but no one should have to face such a journey alone. They need to stay close to the hospital for potentially months, depending on how Herman's body responds to the L-VAD. The cost of long-term accommodation, transportation, and living expenses in a new city adds a significant financial burden on top of their emotional strain.
This is where we can help. I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate some of their financial pressures. Your generous contributions will go directly towards securing a place for Val to stay near the hospital, ensuring that Val can be by Herman's side every step of the way.
No donation is too small, and every bit of support will provide Val and Herman with the stability and peace of mind they desperately need during this difficult time. Your kindness will allow them to focus on what truly matters – Herman’s recovery.
Please join us in supporting Val and Herman. Share their story, contribute if you can, and keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Cousin Kim
