We are raising funds to help cover end of life and funeral expenses for Herbert Wilson, who passed away peacefully at his home with his family and fur babies surrounding on January 3, 2026.

Herbert suffered a massive ischemic stroke on August 23rd that destroyed a significant portion of the pons region of his brain, leaving him extremely debilitated. This was the seventh stroke of his lifetime, and it came only weeks after he survived his third heart attack.

Following this most recent stroke, Herbert was admitted to Mosaic ICU, then transferred to Mosaic LTACH. During this time, he was still mentally lucid and aware, even though his physical abilities were severely limited. He showed modest signs of improvement and made the clear decision that he wanted to keep going and pursue rehabilitation.

He was later transferred to Kaw River Rehabilitation in Edwardsville, Kansas, with the goal of continued recovery. Eventually, he was able to return home, where he began in home hospice care through St. Croix out of Atchison. The original hope was to continue rehab alongside hospice support, but his health took a sudden turn, and unfortunately Herb’s health declined significantly.

Herbert passed away in his home on January 3, 2026 surrounded by his family and pets. His wife, Renita and his daughter, Felicia have cared for him through every step of this process, from hospital stays to rehab transfers to hospice, making sure he was never alone and that his wishes were honored.

Herbert dedicated over 40 years of his life working for Mosaic Life Care. When a series of strokes forced him into retirement, the family was informed that the life insurance he had been told would remain in place after retirement was being revoked. This occurred while his health was failing and his family was already stretched thin trying to manage his care.

Because of this, the family has been left to navigate severe medical hardship, hospice care, and now end of life arrangements without the support they believed had been earned through decades of work. The financial strain has been heavy and ongoing.

Medical care, hospice needs, and funeral costs add up quickly. The family is doing everything possible to ensure Herbert’s final wishes are honored but they cannot do it alone.

Funds raised will help cover:
• Funeral and memorial expenses
• Outstanding medical and care related costs
• End of life support needs for Herbert and his family

Any contribution helps and is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page also means a great deal.

Thank you for taking the time to read Herbert’s story and for supporting his family during this difficult time.
