Hector Garza is my first cousin on my dad's side, and right now, he and his family are facing more than anyone should have to bear. Last year, Hector was diagnosed with testicular cancer and spent six months undergoing chemotherapy. Because of issues with their insurance, Hector and his family had to pay a huge amount out of pocket for his treatments, with each chemo session costing thousands of dollars. While they were still dealing with these bills, Hector's wife, Lauren, was hospitalized and needed brain surgery. She has another surgery scheduled for next month, adding even more stress and uncertainty to their lives.
As if that wasn't enough, Hector's mom Esperanza was just hospitalized this past week due to high blood pressure and other health problems. Now, Hector is also caring for his aunt Chata, who was recently diagnosed with dementia. With so many medical emergencies and caregiving responsibilities, Hector can't work right now, and Lauren doesn't have any family nearby to help as she recovers. Their two children need care and stability, but the family's resources are stretched to the limit.
The money raised here will go directly toward paying off medical bills, covering daily expenses, and supporting caregiving needs while Hector and Lauren focus on healing and caring for their loved ones. I know firsthand how much hope and strength a community can provide. In 2015, I was hit by a jet ski and, thanks to the support of others, I was able to recover and get back on my feet. My dad also beat stage 3 colon cancer in the 2000s, and he too made his recovery with the support and kindness of others. Now, I'm asking for that same hope and generosity for Hector and his family. Any help you can give will make a real difference in their lives.
