Harrison, Daniela, and their 8 year old son Jerónimo are a young Colombian family who came to the United States in August 2021 fleeing violence in their home country. Like so many families, they came seeking safety, protection, and the chance to build a peaceful and dignified life away from fear.
From the moment they arrived, Harrison did everything the right way. He complied with every immigration requirement, attended all of his court hearings, responded to every notice, and trusted the legal process while pursuing his asylum case in good faith.
Despite this, on October 25, Harrison was detained during an ICE operation at Chicago O’Hare Airport while he was working honestly as an Uber driver. Harrison has no criminal record, no arrests, and no history of wrongdoing. His only intention has ever been to protect his family and provide for them through hard work.
Since that day, Harrison has been held at the North Lake Processing Center in Baldwin, Michigan. More than three months have passed in detention, marked by uncertainty, fear, and silence. While still detained, his asylum case was ultimately denied by a judge in a Philadelphia immigration court, leaving this family facing an overwhelming and heartbreaking reality.
At home, Daniela and Jerónimo have been left to navigate life without Harrison.
Jerónimo, just 8 years old, has had to endure the sudden absence of his father, without fully understanding why his dad can no longer tuck him in at night or be there to comfort him. Daniela, now the sole provider, has been forced to take on every responsibility alone: working to survive, keeping their home afloat, and emotionally supporting her child through trauma and fear. At times, she has no choice but to leave Jerónimo alone for short periods while she works to cover basic expenses.
They live in constant fear, fear of further separation, fear of detention, fear of an uncertain future.
This fundraiser was created to help ease even a small part of this immense burden. The funds raised will be used to:
• Cover essential living expenses such as rent, food, and utilities
• Support Daniela and Jerónimo during this period of emotional and financial instability
• Seek and strengthen legal assistance that may help secure Harrison’s release
Any contribution, no matter the amount, represents hope.
A reminder that this family is not alone.
A gesture of compassion in the face of an incredibly painful and unjust situation.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story, for sharing it, and for offering support to Harrison, Daniela, and Jerónimo during one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
