This sweet little boy has been the greatest gift imaginable. His smile lights up every room, and he’s already quite the little charmer.
During pregnancy, they learned Harper would need open heart surgery around 6 months old due to Tetralogy of Fallot. But their brave boy had other plans. At just two weeks old, he was life-flighted to UAB for emergency care. After heart surgery, doctors discovered he also had complete tracheal rings, a rare condition affecting his airway.
Since then, he has faced more than most people do in a lifetime. After many follow-up appointments, the week of Thanksgiving they received more difficult news — he would need surgery again, they ultimately traveled to Texas Children’s Hospital, where he underwent another open-heart surgery along with a complete tracheal repair.
Just as they were preparing to finally bring him home, he developed severe abdominal pain caused by intussusception, followed by breathing difficulties. As of this week, he is back in the ICU on a ventilator. Thankfully, his medical team believes they have stabilized his airway and plan to perform a bronchoscopy soon, with hopes of getting him back on room air and, most importantly, back home.
He is their whole world, and we they are holding onto the hope of seeing him healthy, comfortable, and giggling again very soon.
The funds will be used to take some of the financial pressure off of them. Including medical expenses, meals, travel, housing, etc.
Your thoughts and support are very appreciated.
