As some of you know, Sammy and I lost our sweet little cat Habibi just about a month ago to cancer, at the tender age of six years old. When she was initially adopted we were told she had some allergy issues and some shallow breathing, when she was a very young cat. We made a regular vet checkup for Monday the 5th of May. The day before, she was having exceptional trouble breathing so I was keeping an eye on her. Eventually she had a major asthma attack, hid under the bed for a minute or two and then convulsed and couldn't walk. As it was a Sunday we had to find an emergency vet that was open. When she got there she was treated for fluid in her lungs and diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, so we made the decision to end her life peacefully without pain. The staff at Bluepearl were phenomenal both in empathy and quality of care. Unfortunately we ended up with a bill to the tune of $1600. There was no way to not follow through with it as she was in an awful lot of pain and incredibly scared. We've had some friends reach out to help however much they can which will make our lives a little bit easier as our finances aren't in a position to cover this, even with a generous payment plan for the next 8 months. Any bit will help, or just sharing Habibi's story.
Here’s something Sammy wrote about her two years ago on her adoption:
Welcome Habibti Mish-Mish! (Arabic: My love, the apricot.)
She’s a 4 year old buff tabby… a beautiful cat that pets you back, gives head butts, understands German commands within 2 weeks of training like “sitz” (sit) and “gib pfötchen” (shake).
Adopted at the St. Paul Feline Rescue @felinerescue, which I totally recommend. They let me spend as much time as possible with the cats so I could make an informed decision… but as soon as I met Delos (which is Ancient Greek, for “being present”) I was smitten by her shy, quiet, but loving demeanor. She, after speculation, was purring and head butting me and begging to be pet.
This is my kind of kitty… the sweetest and most playful. Never bites, only gums and licks. Never scratches, only lightly paws. Chirps and doesn’t meow incessantly. Sleeps with me every night on a little velvet pillow next to my head. Greets me when I get home every day and take naps on her heated blanket.
Thanks,
Sammy & Colin
