Dear friends,

As you may already know, our friend, colleague, coach and mentor Guy Payne has recently had some challenging health issues. He’s undergone very extensive heart surgery and is safely recovering in Halifax – thanks in part to his strength and also from all the positive energy we’ve been sending him from all around the world.

Many of you have been asking what you can do. It is obvious how well loved Guy is by your overwhelming responses. While we can’t all be there in person, we can help alleviate some of the financial strain that Guy and Betsy are going to feel in the coming months. On the road to recovery there will certainly be a lot of travel back and forth to the hospital – and even more, they will have to make a number of modifications to their home to account for Guy’s limited mobility, especially during the initial stages.

If we can help gather donations, we can relieve some of this stress from the family – and let Betsy worry about caring for Guy instead of all these other things. Just think what we could accomplish even if every athlete he’s coached gave only 5 or 10 dollars.

After I talked to Jill yesterday, I couldn’t help but remember something she said to me many years ago when she was organizing a fundraiser for a friend in need – it will raise more than money, it will raise spirits! I think this is the first thing we can do to help put the Payne family a little more at ease and show our support for each of them on the road back to health.
