Early in November, I was rushed to the hospital with severe shortness of breath. What followed was a whirlwind of medical emergencies—first a helicopter ride, then two ambulance transfers, and days spent in four different hospitals. I was finally starting to recover, but now, due to complications, I need to return to the hospital for more treatment. This has been a frightening and exhausting journey, not just for me, but for my whole family.

I have a beautiful little family: my wife, our 13-year-old daughter, and our 3-year-old son. As a dad, I’ve always tried to be the cornerstone for them, but this illness has turned our world upside down. My family has been so strong, but I know how much they’re worrying about me and about how we’ll manage the basics—keeping a roof over our heads and food on the table—while I’m unable to work and focus on getting better.
