Callen Evan Grimm was born on August 30, 2023.
He was at the University of Iowa Hospitals for 38 days after birth and spent an additional 44 days at Stead Family Children's Hospital during his first four months. Callen was born with a congenital heart defect called tetralogy of Fallot. He had open-heart surgery on September 15. In October, doctors discovered that he also had a narrowing in his trachea that became life-threatening in December. While in Iowa City, his Mom, Kristine, stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City while his Dad, Jeremy, continued to work. This sweet little boy has been through more than anyone can imagine.
Most recently, Callen was transferred by fixed-wing aircraft to the children's hospital in Cincinnati. Kristine is taking an extended leave of absence from work to be with Callen while he is hospitalized. Callen is in critical condition and is scheduled for a high-risk surgery on Tuesday, January 9, to reconstruct his airway and further repair his heart.
Lots of prayers are needed for Callen, Kristine, and Jeremy. Any donation will help ease the burden of medical bills, travel expenses, lodging, and meals. The road to healing will be a long one, but with your kindness and generosity, we can help the Grimm Family focus on Callen getting better. Thank you for being a source of compassion during this difficult time.
