Support for Greg Brown's Family

Donation protected
In early 2025, musician, loving father, and stellar human Greg Brown (Saturday’s Child, CAKE, Deathray, The That) was hospitalized with a traumatic spinal cord injury. Unfortunately, his condition worsened throughout 2025, and ultimately, he passed in February 2026.

Like many of you reading this, Greg - his quiet nature and fiercely creative soul - changed our lives. We hope to come together to honor his spirit and help relieve the burden of considerable medical debt for his family as they grieve.

We’re grateful that they have agreed to let Greg's friends and fans help in any way we can.

All messages of support and donations here will go directly to medical debt incurred and to the Brown family: his wife, Courtney, and their three children.

From the family:

Our beloved Greg didn’t want any fanfare in his passing. May this serve as a non-obituary.

Greg Brown was born in Sacramento and grew up riding his bike and playing soccer in College Greens. Ever resourceful, he had a newspaper bike route for several years in elementary school.

Although a very quiet and private individual, by high school, Greg found his voice in music, specifically through guitar playing and songwriting. He loved the mythology and mystery of music and spent hours poring over liner notes, lyrics, and tablature from his favorite bands like Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin. At Sac High, under the tutelage of Ike Paggett, he met friends and fellow musicians who would form Saturday’s Child. Not long after, they all joined CAKE. Greg was instrumental in the foundation of CAKE’s signature sound and arrangements. He wrote the band's 1996 #1 hit, “The Distance”. Greg left CAKE in 1997 to form Deathray, where his songwriting voice expanded and evolved. Ever the thoughtful perfectionist, he kept writing and performing with his friends, eventually releasing his first solo EP in 2024.

We remember Greg as an artist, a dedicated and loving father, and husband. He loved animals. He loved dusty old instruments and the crackle of vinyl records. He loved sharing songs and new ideas. He loved a good book. And a good cup of coffee.

He loved, and is loved.
