Support for Grant Carley's Recovery

Hello family, friends, and those involved,

We created this Gofundme for our dad, Grant Carley.  He recently had open heart surgery and here is his story...

Since July 3rd, 2018 our Dad Grant has been in the hospital. He went into Palmdale Regional after not feeling right and this is when we all found out he was suffering from Endocarditis which is a blood infection and it grew a vegetation on his mitral valve of his heart, creating a large hole. On July 13th he was transferred by ambulance to UCLA medical center to provide him the care he needed to under-go open heart surgery.

Unfortunately this is not where the story stops. During his wait to get the valve replacement surgery many more problems occurred. He had aneurysms that popped up in his left gluteal muscle and thigh that were causing internal bleeding. During the surgery to fix them, he crashed and needed two blood transfusions. In the middle of this surgery they also found an aneurysm in his liver that they needed to take care of then and there. During recovery of the surgery for the aneurysms he carried a fever of 106 and was not doing well.

He became stable enough to finally get his heart surgery on the books for July 23rd. The day prior to that they had told us that he had a small stroke sometime during his hospital stay which added more risk to his surgery. The head neurologists at the hospital told us the risk was worth going forward with his open heart surgery because if that didn't get fixed, we wouldn't have him in our lives today.

The night of his surgery came and with all odds aside, he fought off the darkness and survived his valve replacement. Since day one of being in the hospital, his fiance, Angela, has not left his side and has been his rock of support along with his children, family, friends, and all of the staff who truly cared for him.

Grant is currently still in the hospital and has much more recovering to do before he is to return home. Angela will continue to aid in his recovery and the surgeons and doctors said she will need to spend 85% of her time with him for the first 6-8 weeks and he is not permitted to return to work for a minimum of 6 months. Our dad has been the hardest physical worker and business owner for the past 30+ years of his life and this is a big change for him. With both bread winners of the household being out of work for many months this has put not only emotional but financial strain on the family.

With that being said, the children of Grant and Angela wanted to share this story with anyone willing to lend an ear, and kindly ask for any support if you are capable. We are doing what we can but any help is appreciated more than words could ever express.

With love from all of us,
Jessica, Megan, Logan, Josh, Miranda, Napo, and Nadia
