Support for Grace’s Surgery and Recovery

Our bright and beautiful (almost) 2-year-old daughter, Grace, has recently been diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). This condition requires surgery to correct the issue and ensure proper development of her hip joint.

The procedure requires them going in and shaving down the femur and then cutting ligaments and tendons to provide function. The right hip was never in the socket even during birth so they have to make a socket and put a metal plate in there and hold her femoral head with two metal pins. The recovery is long and even longer if we have to restart for any accidents since she is in diapers still. She’s so little. She will require a 2nd surgery too to remove the pins. During the time she won’t be able to move so we are having to supply a specific table and chair for her to sit in to keep her hips in place and stable. We are also having to get a specific car seat and bean bag chair. These are all things the surgeon has told us she will need in order to recover.

As parents, we're still trying to process how our little one could have been born with this condition without any indication from her pediatrician or doctors until we moved and got a new pediatrician. The difficult birth she had may have contributed to this, but we're focused on moving forward and getting her the care she needs.

The upcoming surgery will require a significant period of recovery, during which Grace will be unable to walk or move around for over 10 weeks. We're facing a long road ahead, and the medical expenses are piling up. That's why we're turning to this community for support.
