Support for Gloria Morán's Family After the Fire

Donation protected
I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Gloria Morán and her family, whose lives were suddenly upended by a devastating house fire just after Christmas.

What Happened
On the day after Christmas, a severe electrical fire tore through Gloria and her family’s home, burning through nearly one-third of the house. To stop the spread of the fire, emergency crews had to puncture the ceilings and roof in multiple areas to ventilate smoke. While this was necessary, it caused soot and hazardous debris to spread throughout the entire structure.

As a result, the whole house—even rooms untouched by flames—has been deemed unsafe. Soot, along with lead and asbestos dust from roof materials, now coats nearly all of their belongings. What could not be burned was contaminated, leaving the family with a total loss of their possessions.

While they are profoundly grateful that no one was physically harmed, they returned home to a heartbreaking reality: everything they owned was gone.

A Family in an Especially Vulnerable Moment
This tragedy could not have come at a more difficult time. Earlier in December, Gloria learned she is five months pregnant. Because she lives with fibromyalgia, her pregnancy is considered high-risk, requiring added care, stability, and reduced stress.

Instead of focusing on rest, healing, and preparing to welcome a new baby, the family is now facing displacement, uncertainty, and the exhausting process of rebuilding after a fire—all while caring for their children and navigating a high-risk pregnancy.

Why Your Support Matters
The estimated repair timeline for the home is 9 to 12 months, meaning the family will need temporary housing for up to a year. While insurance may help with part of the recovery, it will not come close to covering the full cost of displacement, replacement, and day-to-day living.

Your support will help cover:
  • Temporary housing and basic living expenses
  • Clothing, furniture, and essential household items
  • Medical and pregnancy-related needs
  • Unexpected costs that arise while the family works to rebuild a safe home

This fundraiser is about more than replacing things. It is about giving this family stability, dignity, and breathing room during one of the most overwhelming chapters of their lives.

How You Can Help
Every donation—no matter the amount—will make a real and immediate difference. Your generosity will help ensure this family has a safe place to live, basic necessities, and the ability to focus on healing and staying together during this long recovery.

If you are unable to donate, sharing this page is an equally meaningful way to help.

Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and willingness to support Gloria and her family during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness truly matters.

Why the Goal of $75,000?
We set this goal thoughtfully and with care, based on the real costs of recovery after a house fire and a year-long displacement. While insurance will help in some areas, many expenses are immediate, uncovered, delayed, or only partially reimbursed.

Here’s how this support will be used:

Temporary Housing (9–12 months): $35,000
Due to extensive fire, smoke, and hazardous material damage, our home will take an estimated 9–12 months to repair. Short-term housing in the Bay Area often exceeds what insurance covers, especially for a family. These funds will help bridge that gap so they can remain safely housed.

Replacing Essentials After Total Loss: $15,000
Nearly all belongings inside the home are unsafe due to soot, lead, and asbestos contamination. This includes clothing, beds, furniture, kitchen items, children’s necessities, and basic household supplies — not luxury replacements, but the essentials needed to live day-to-day.

Medical & Pregnancy-Related Support: $10,000
Gloria’s pregnancy is considered high-risk due to fibromyalgia. These funds help cover medical expenses, increased care needs, time off work, and health-related costs during a physically demanding and uncertain time.

Unexpected Recovery & Transition Costs: $15,000
Fire recovery brings many unplanned expenses — storage, transportation, replacing work tools and documents, temporary living costs, and gaps while insurance claims are processed. This portion provides flexibility as new needs arise.

Total Goal: $75,000
Every dollar goes toward stability and safety to focus on healing and rebuilding their lives.
