With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of our beloved niece, Vanessa Mukhtar–Vergara, who left us on January 1, 2026, at the age of 40. Vanessa was a dedicated mother, wife, family member, and friend. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Ramapo College. For 11 years, Vanessa worked at the Passaic County Board of Social Services, serving as a Human Specialist 3, and was an active member of her sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha, Mu chapter at Ramapo College. She was also a breast cancer survivor, showing strength and resilience throughout her life.
The true light of Vanessa’s life was her daughter, Gianna, whom she leaves behind at just 15 years old. Gianna was Vanessa’s greatest joy, her pride, and her reason for everything she did. This GoFundMe has been created by Vanessa’s family and friends to support Gianna’s future. All funds raised will be set aside for Gianna’s education and future needs, to be used when she turns 18 for college or at any time afterward for whatever she may need as she steps into adulthood. We know that providing security, opportunity, and support for Gianna would be the greatest gift Vanessa could ever want for her daughter.
This fund is our way of honoring Vanessa’s life, her love, and her legacy. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider donating. Any contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated, and sharing this page means more than you know. Thank you for surrounding Gianna with love during this incredibly difficult time.
