TW: Police Brutality
I absolutely hate to share this but my heart is broken for my cousin, his family, and our community. My cousin George ‘fit the description’ and because of that he is in the hospital on life support and his dog is dead. He was not the person in question.
The incident occurred early July 24th. George Barlow did not deserve to be brutalized like this, nobody does. Law enforcement in Payahuunadü (the Owens Valley) has a history of brutalizing Native citizens and we receive little to no justice.
Prayers up for George! We grew up together and the first thing I think of is his big smile and his infectious laughter. Please join my community in holding law enforcement accountable. Call these numbers to demand justice for George Barlow.
This is what I said when I called—“I want to demand that the officers who brutalized George Barlow on July 24th on the Bishop Reservation be held accountable for the injuries they inflicted upon him. And for shooting and killing of his dog. Law enforcement agencies continue to mistreat the Native community and it needs to stop.”
If you can please contribute to the family venmo @Monica-Sigala-4 and contribute to this gofundme— George's family needs support in this time. Proceeds will go for family while they are by his side, for potential hospital bills, lawyer fees, and whatever else the family needs
I was told to call Carma Roper but here are the numbers in the Sherriff’s Department.
