Support for Gay's Son after the Tragic Loss of his Mom
Donation protected
Tanya Bourgoin is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Chauncey Sherman Smith.
At 19 years old, Chauncey has already been through more loss than most people have
had to endure. His grandmother passed a few years ago after a long illness. Just about
two years later, he lost his father, followed several months later by the passing of his
grandfather with whom he spent a lot of time. Through all of those losses, he found
strength and comfort in the close relationship he had with his mother. As the only child
of a single mom, Chauncey was the center of Gay’s world and vice versa. They were
not only mother and son, they were truly good friends who enjoyed each other’s
company.
In a tragic and cruel stroke of fate, his mother, Gay Sherman Weintz, was taken from
him suddenly and unexpectedly just days before they were to move. They were very
much looking forward to starting a new chapter in a new home. Now Chauncey is facing
so many life-altering challenges - moving by himself, managing his mother’s affairs and
belongings and being forced to navigate the impending obligations of young adulthood
(with all of its inherent stress)- on his own while mourning this most devastating loss.
Gay was a lot of things to a lot of people - a beloved sister, a caring and giving friend, a
brilliant teacher, a kind and dedicated member of the community, a talented and
industrious business woman - but to Chauncey she was everything: mother, friend,
confidant, cheerleader, counselor, champion and companion.
Gay could always be counted on to be there for her family, friends and community. Let’s
honor her memory by being there now for Chauncey. On behalf of Gay’s cherished son,
we set up this fund to help alleviate some of the financial pressures associated with his
burgeoning independence as he struggles through his profound grief so that he can
focus on healing.
At this time of such crushing loss, even a small contribution can make a big difference,
offering both material relief and a message of compassion and support to a young man
reeling from the loss of his mother. I know that Chauncey will be deeply grateful for any
contribution you are able to give. Thank you for your kindness.
