Our hearts are broken as we mourn the tragic loss of Gattie Nguany, 18 years old, of Cedar Springs. Just less than a week ago, Gattie proudly graduated from Morley Stanwood High School, with his whole future ahead of him. Gattie was full of life and impossible not to love. He was an amazing athlete who loved hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes. He always showed up with a fresh fit, from his clothes and shoes to his perfectly styled hair. His captivating smile and eyes are something no one who knew him will ever forget.
Gattie shared an unbreakable bond with his mom, Samantha. When Gattie was a baby, Samantha lost her own mother to suicide, and she says Gattie saved her life, giving her strength and a reason for living. More than anything, Gattie loved his family. He adored his brother and sister, loved music of all kinds, and had countless friends whose lives he impacted deeply. He dreamed of following in the footsteps of his papa and uncle to become a lineman. Tragically, Gattie’s life was taken far too soon due to an act of violence. No family should have to endure this kind of pain, especially while also facing the financial burden of funeral and final arrangements.
Gattie's parents are self-employed and will be out of work for some time as they grieve and heal. Support from this fundraiser will help cover not only funeral and final expenses, but also living costs during this difficult period.
We are asking our communities in Cedar Springs and Morley Stanwood to come together to support Samantha and Gattie's family during this unimaginable time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden and allow the family to focus on grieving, healing, and honoring Gattie’s life. Gattie was also a former student of Cedar Springs Public Schools, and we know so many people across both communities are hurting from this loss. Please consider donating, sharing this fundraiser, and keeping Gattie’s family and friends in your prayers. Gone far too soon, and forever missed.
Gattie’s funeral will be held at the Howard City Funeral Home, formerly known as Heckman Funeral Home. Service details will be announced as soon as we know more.
