Gary is a 27-year-old union electrician who has always been well liked by his friends and those he meets. He enjoys golfing and playing billiards, and has worked hard to build a life he’s proud of. Recently, Gary’s life took a sudden turn when he began experiencing severe mental health challenges. Despite faithfully taking his medication for bipolar disorder over the past seven years, he developed irrational thoughts and paranoid fears just a few weeks ago. This led to a psychotic episode, and Gary is now in the medical ward of the county jail, unable to care for himself or manage his daily responsibilities.

Gary’s short-term disability from a previous foot injury has run out, leaving him with no income and no way to pay for rent, bills, or legal fees. As his mother, I am working to become his legal guardian so I can help him get the care and support he needs. We don’t know how long Gary will be in jail or how long his recovery will take, but immediate help is needed to keep his housing stable and ensure he receives proper treatment for his mental health.
