- Hi, all...On Thursday June 24th, 2021 my boyfriend's father, Gary Styles, was tragically killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. He was less than 5 minutes from home. He left behind two young sons, Romel (26) and Daevon (16). Unfortunately, just 5 years ago they also lost their mother Adrienne Styles, Gary’s wife, to a battle with breast cancer. Gary was determined to continue to raise his sons and give them all he could. He was always supportive and loving and kept his main priority his sons' wellbeing. As anyone can imagine, this has been an incredible amount of loss that is hard to describe in words. His tragically sudden passing left a huge hole in the family.
- Gary Styles wasn’t only a father, husband, brother and uncle... he was a friend, coach, and father figure to so many people. He lived a full life, always finding some way to help someone else out or keep busy, the type of person who would give you their last. He took care of and raised his 5 brothers when he himself lost both of his parents at a young age. Gary worked in telecommunications for 26 years, and managed several offices during this time. He served in the Air Force for 8 years, and got to travel and serve all over the world. He loved basketball and was a basketball coach for over 15 years, where he made lasting impressions and guided a lot of youth. And most recently, he found a love for bike riding, especially around Lake Merritt.
- Thank you all for your generosity. The money raised will all be contributed to Gary's funeral costs, and future education expenses for his youngest son, Daevon. Donations will go to Romel so he can help handle all necessary funeral arrangements and a savings for Daevon's education. Gary always wanted both of his sons to attend and graduate from college, and we hope to help him be able to fulfill that wish. Romel’s goal as the oldest is to follow in his dad's footsteps and try to make this happen. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated by Gary's sons and family.
