My name is George, and I am reaching out during the most difficult time of my life. My husband, Gary Benton-Elliot, was my best friend, soulmate, and my rock of stability. After 11 months of battling sepsis from a broken ankle, Gary passed away on 10/10/25. His long history of type 2 diabetes meant he was not a candidate for amputation, and his insurance fought us every step of the way. Appeals were denied, and in his final months, we struggled to get even basic care. I spent weeks fighting for a hospital bed, and even after his passing, we are still being charged for equipment that was returned months ago.
Gary’s insulin and medical costs were overwhelming, and so many other expenses were not covered. When he passed, I was left with funeral, burial, and medical bills, and now, with only one income, I am struggling to make his final arrangements. The financial burden has been overwhelming, and everything this past year has been charged to get by.
Funds raised will help cover Gary's funeral and burial costs, a memorial service, travel expenses for our minister to attend, and lessen the financial burden from out-of-pocket purchases that insurance would not pay for. Thank you for any help you might give. Setting this up was a hard decision, and I feel a sense of guilt and a sense of failure for doing so. But after almost five months, I realize that affording all this is a hill I may not be able to make it over without support.
