There aren’t many words that can accurately describe how amazing of a young man Gabe Toppin was. He had a special way of always brightening the room, and quick with a joke that would make the everyone around him laugh. During meals at the dining hall or tough practices, there was never a lack of smiles when Gabe was around. His constant “would you rather” scenarios or outlandish yet hilarious comments never stopped bringing joy to those in his company. Throughout his track career at Southern Connecticut, he maintained a bright personality and an upbeat attitude, in spite of the challenges that collegiate track presented. He was ambitious, always striving to become the best athlete he could possibly be, and his energy inspired everyone around him.

As a personal note, Gabe was an incredibly happy, caring, and upbeat individual. I hope that everyone has the privilege of knowing a person like Gabe at some point in their lives.

Tragically, Gabe is believed to have passed away around 10pm on Sunday, December 28th. Not much has been shared about the circumstances of his passing, but what remains clear is the deep loss felt by all who knew him. His family is now facing unimaginable grief, and we want to come together to support them in any way we can.
