Support for Fr. Scheffer High School, Homa Bay Kenya

Hi, my Name is Gertrude Wafula and I'm fundraising in support of Fr Scheffer High School, a school currently led by Sr Barbara. Those who know her as an educator who devotes everything to improving lives.

Fr. Scheffer High School - Nyabola was started in the year 2019 by Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph - Asumbi in a remote and marginalised village within Ndhiwa Sub County in Homa Bay, Kenya. The institution was established in response to the numerous cases of school dropouts, particularly among young girls whose family backgrounds prevented them from accessing secondary education.

This is a result of the high poverty level in the area, which makes many parents lack the necessary resources for secondary education. Out of these needs, the Sisters moved by empathy put together the meagre resources they could raise at the time and got the school up and running.

Currently, the school is made of Iron Sheet structures with some already facing dilapidation due to the depreciation of the materials used at the time. Although the school has sufficient land purchased by the Sisters, the current infrastructure is not suitable for the students. The current number of students rescued is 30, and the rescue mission is ongoing.

We believe that the number will soon rise. All these students, both boys and girls, are in school as a result of the rescue; thus, they pay no school fees. There is a high need for this infrastructure to be modernised for the comfort of the students as well as to lift the school.

Information Technology in learning is of great need today, as we move forward with the dream of building this school, we equally need to think of introducing IT education and use for a modernized learning and to enable our students to be well equipped with the realities of this world.

Other forms of educational hardware, such as books, furniture, and other associated teaching aids, are still lacking in this institution. We thus passionately appeal for assistance to help the institution grow as is envisioned in the current strategic plan. Support us and give these young girls an opportunity.
