As some of you may know, my two-year-old nephew, Fletcher had emergency neurosurgery last year in October.
In August last year, Fletcher a then one-year old boy, had been in inconsolable pain. He was taken to three different hospitals and many doctors who all put his pain down to "mystery pain" and "constipation". Fletcher was sent home from doctors and discharged from hospitals as the professionals believed "the pain will stop on its own".
However, a parent's worst nightmare was met when on October 8th, Fletcher woke up and was paralysed from the chest down. He was immediately taken in for an MRI and his family were told there was a "tumour" between his T1 and T5 vertebrae, compressing his spinal cord, which caused the paralysis to set in.
Fletcher was then rushed to the Royal Childrens Hospital to have emergency Neurosurgery.
Despite being told he may never walk again or that if he does it would take two years of intense rehabilitation to do so, the surgery was a complete success and after only two months, fletcher had made a full recovery, or so we thought.
In March of this year, after a follow up MRI, it was determined that Fletchers tumour/cyst (the mass is still unidentified) has refilled, he has another cord compression and is about to go through a more extensive surgery to try and resect and prevent this from happening again. The surgery will be performed at a higher vertebrae, which means there is higher risks, namely quadriplegia.
I am asking for any kind of contribution to help my sister and Fletchers dad during this very difficult time, especially because due to the COVID-19 outbreak the Ronald Mcdonald house that Fletchers parents would usually stay in for free (last time they stayed there for almost a month) is in isolation, so they arent taking any new families, meaning they will either have to make the drive from Geelong to Melbourne every day, sleep in their car or pay for accommodation in the city. As I'm sure many of you would understand, having a sick child in the hospital is not cheap, so any kind of donation is appreciated.
Thank you all for your ongoing support. Xxx
