Support for Firefighter Bill Dryden & Son After Accident

My name is Melissa Cagle, and I’m reaching out on behalf of a family who means the world to me — the Drydens. Our sons became close friends years ago, and since then, I’ve come to know Bill, Abigail, and Dylan as some of the kindest, most dedicated people you could ever meet.

On May 30, 2025, DeKalb County Fire Captain Bill Dryden and his son Dylan were involved in a devastating car accident while heading to baseball practice — a moment that changed their lives in an instant.

Bill sustained multiple critical injuries, including a fractured shoulder, femur, ribs, femur, ankle, neck and arm. He had surgery where a rod was inserted into his femur. All of his fractures will require surgery. He is currently in the ICU receiving intensive care, with a long and uncertain road to recovery ahead.

Dylan, a bright and energetic young man with a heart of gold, also suffered severe internal injuries — including kidney lacerations, a spleen laceration, sternal fracture, effusion to his heart and a hernia with intestinal involvement. He underwent surgery and and may require another surgery later on.

The Dryden family is now facing an overwhelming journey — physically, emotionally, and financially. Bill, who has dedicated his life to serving and protecting others through his work as a firefighter, will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. The mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and daily needs are more than any one family should bear alone.

I created this fundraiser to give back to a family that has given so much to their community — and to show them that they’re not alone in this fight.
