Support for Finnley!
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
Thanks for reading this long post in advance, I think most everyone who sees this might remember the GoFundMe fundraiser I posted early last year for my sister, Hayley, her husband, Geraden, and their son, Finnley. Before he was born, Finnley was diagnosed with stage 3 Myelomeningocele, a rare birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal chord do not form properly, also know as one of the most aggressive forms of spina bifida. Since he was born last July, he has undergone too many surgeries to count, was on a ventilator for months, and is still breathing using a trache tube.

Every part of me wishes I was not writing this right now, but it has been such a difficult past couple of months, even rivaling the uncertainty and fear of early last year. At the beginning of August, Finn was admitted back to the hospital for unexpected spinal surgery, and was required to stay there for about three weeks to recover. Since then, he has been back to the ER about 4 or 5 times, after only being home for a few hours. At his most current trip this morning, it was determined that the doctors have no idea what is causing his recent symptoms. Hopefully they are able to find out soon and he can go home for good!!
To make things worse, as we all know COVID is still running rampant in Texas, and there are not enough beds or staff to take care of the insane amounts of patients. I believe Finn’s longest wait for a bed was about 2 days a couple of weeks ago, which is unheard of. On top of this, the constant trips to overflowing ER’s and hospitals also put him and his family at a higher risk of getting COVID, which would obviously be a very serious situation. In fact just last week, Finn, Hayley, Geraden, and my mom, all caught Rhinovirus after being exposed at an appointment, and are still recovering. At least it wasn’t COVID, but it still had them down for several days, and unable to be at the hospital with Finn.
I’m reopening this GoFundMe to anyone who would like to help them out, it will be so appreciated as Hayley has been on leave from teaching since early August, and Geraden lost his job around the same time. They could definitely use the support, so thank you in advance to everyone who donates, and who has donated already, in any form! <3 Here’s to hoping Finn can come home soon!!
