Our mom recently passed after a short but intense battle with cancer. My siblings and I are learning how many unexpected expenses come with final arrangements, all under a very short timeframe. She didn’t have active life insurance, so all costs are falling on us.

We’re facing expenses for her storage units (including one at risk of auction in two weeks), the care and transportation of her remains, and helping our brother return home from overseas to be with family. There may be additional costs as we continue to sort through everything.

I also had knee surgery just days after her passing, which has taken me—and my wife—out of work during a critical time.
