Support for Fertility Treatments
Donation protected
TL;DR: Resident physician whose LOC has had a significant increase in interest fees over the past while and being given the wrong assessment on costs of her fertility treatments has led to her having started the process but won't be able to finish the process.
A longer version adapted from a previous Facebook post by Randi George:
Long story short, we’ve been saving for IVF. As a Resident, that’s tough, but we had enough to take the process to the embryo phase at least. I wanted to do this part asap bc I’ll be 38 in February & I’m worried about egg quality & quantity to put it off longer.
I started the oral med stage; we picked a donor & ordered the necessary ingredients. Unfortunately, over the past month, we had an unexpected expense; the interest payment for my line of credit increased (again!)… & I found out the nurse who gave me the cost quote missed one fee & didn’t realize another of the hefty fees didn’t include tax. We are now several thousand short for even the embryo process (without the transfer).
I’m at the tail end of the oral meds & have an appt at the clinic on Monday when we were supposed to pick up the stim meds for our egg retrieval at the end of the month. Right now, we have just enough for the stim meds and donor sperm, but not enough to complete the IVF Process to get the embryos. We’ve tried all week to find some way to borrow enough to continue with our embryos, but we couldn’t make it happen.
I’m sad about letting go of these “eggies” that we’ve been lovingly calling them all month.
I’m so sad. We would have had enough for the whole process, right to transfer/pregnancy right now if it wasn’t for the damn interest rate increasing so much! My student line of credit has gone from $600 to $1650 over this past year, eating up all the money that was supposed to be for baby. Ugh, as if this pandemic hasn’t taken enough from us already "
Due to Randi's age, time is of the essence for fertility treatments. She is also a resident physician, and it would take her a while to save enough, given the financial situation she explained above. Let's see if we can help out this beautiful family because we need more Randi Georges in the world. She is a fierce advocate and a loving person who needs a little love and advocacy right now.
