Support for Fearghas after Spinal Surgery

The injury

Our beloved Fearghas had a tragic accident at work on Friday 11th August. As a result, he is now going through spinal reconstruction surgery and a long recovery period.

Fearghas fell from a large tree whilst working, resulting in a severe break in his spine and multiple fractures across his neck, arms and legs. He has now successfully undergone an intensive 7 hour bout of surgery and is about to start his recovery journey. Currently based in Derriford Hospital, his surgery and initial recovery period will start here, before moving to a specialist centre in Salisbury.

After speaking with multiple Neurosurgeons, it has been determined that the damage to his spinal nerves is so severe, there is a high chance he will not be able to walk again. However, this is not for certain, this is where we want your support.

Fearghas currently does not have any movement from his waist down and is under constant surveillance and care from the wonderful staff at Derriford and all of his close family and friends. The pain he is currently experiencing is very severe and the recovery period not only for his spine and legs, but for the rest of his body, is going to require a large amount of resilience, love and care.

Once his initial recovery period is over, the specialist centre in Salisbury will start his 4-6month rehabilitation programme, before he returns home to resume life.

Throughout this process, we will keep you informed and updated on the progress.

How can you help?

Fearghas and all of his close friends and family have full hope that his recovery will be successful. We are doing everything we can to get him on his feet again, however coming to terms with the reality of what we're about to embark on is incredibly hard for everyone.

Specialist equipment, living expenses, experiences and travel are all going to be important and expensive factors in the upcoming months. The ongoing bills and rent, as well as expenses for friends and family to keep him going will be high.

It is also likely that major adjustments will be made to his living environment when he returns home, the money raised will help prepare for this and give Fearghas the best chance possible to carry on the hard work of the staff at Salisbury and Derriford.

Please consider this when making your donation. As little or much as you can give will go a long way during this period and will work towards one thing only, giving Fearghas the best shot he has at a full recovery.

About Fearghas

Energetic, funny, chaotic, loving and above all, a loyal friend and family member. Fearghas has impacted more people than he will ever realise with his infectious personality and yearning for life.

Dedicated to the outdoors, animals, socialising and the odd questionable Greek salad - his life has always been about living it to the maximal level and enjoying every minute of it.

Growing up in Plymouth, this tragic accident has brought together a huge network of friends and family that share one common trait - a true love and understanding of what a wonderful human being Fearghas is. This life would not be the same without him and we are so happy we can continue this period of our lives helping someone who brings so much to the world.
