My father was taken emergently to the ER Monday morning. It was determined that he had a brain aneurysm that had ruptured which was causing the brain bleed. He was transferred to CHI St. Vincent North under the care of a great neurology team. A burr hole was placed in his skull to help relieve pressure and drain blood. He still has this drain and will be weaned off of it over the next week or so while in ICU. If unable to wean off the drain he will have to have a permanent shunt placed in his brain. He has since several CT’s, Ultrasounds, angiograms and MRI’s. It was determined that on Wednesday morning he suffered a small stroke. Thursday he had brain surgery that entailed wrapping the part of the aneurysm that ruptured. His recovery is going to be a process. He is able to move all his extremities but is very weak and a lot of physical therapy and occupational therapy will be needed. He has double vision and with small movements he gets dizzy and nauseous. He has a feeling as if his left side is asleep. He remains in good spirits. ICU stay will be about a week and then inpatient rehab is also looking like a week or two. My parents are both out of working for the extended future. Their jobs are secure due to FMLA but that is unpaid leave for them both.
And personally.. I know they wouldn’t ask.. but I know if we were in this situation we wouldn’t want to have to worry about these things!
anything and everything helps and appreciated tremendously!
