We’re hoping to raise money for our friend Ari and her two children. Her house and possessions were badly smoke damaged by the devastating Brimscombe fire in the next door property. It tragically took the lives of her neighbours - Nu and her beautiful young children, as their father Tom tried to save them.

Ari has been reluctant to seek help as she does not wish to detract from Tom’s loss, so we in her friendship group have set up the fundraiser on her behalf.

Ari and her family can’t move into their house until there has been extensive work done to eliminate the smoke damage throughout. Many things need replacing including the heating system / radiators some floors, electrics and roof repairs. Ari had spent months renovating her property before the fire and only had a few bits of DIY left to do. She had been planning to move into the house on Boxing Day itself, which is why she wasn’t there at the time of the fire but she had moved in most of her possessions into the property in readiness.

Almost all of Ari’s possessions that were in the house at the time of the fire will have to be replaced. Smoke damage is toxic and can continue to release toxins over time. Her Insurance will take a while to sort and pay out and she’s still unsure what will be covered.

Ari feels traumatised by the loss of her neighbours. She is also struggling to come to terms with not being there to help Tom at the time. She is in limbo on what to do next; her children are unsettled and the house will need a huge amount of work.
