On March 21st, a bomb cyclone hit the SF Bay Area and resulted in additional damage to the weather-worn region. Unfortunately, Sausalito's home was one of its victims. Damage from the storm caused the iconic houseboat to flood and then sink. Efforts are in place to remove the mud and water, and we are doing everything that we can to save it. We haven't lost hope. However, the lower level is full of mud, water and floating possessions. The effort to raise the home, release the mud and water, and save as much as we possibly can, is a precarious one.
The Sausalito Floating home has been a symbol of love and community. It has been a tourist attraction, a waterfront icon, and a city landmark. It has been a place to celebrate, to gather, and to connect. But above all else, it was- and is- a home. The family that lives there has lost nearly all of their belongings and has been displaced for an indefinite amount of time.
It is with humility that we reach out to our community for support. This has been an added tragedy to an already sensitive situation. In this trying economy, Mom has been looking for work for several months. In addition, the family has a scared three-year-old. It is of utmost importance for them to create a sense of safety, stability and home for themselves and for their little girl, and to work towards moving forward and healing.
As they work to get themselves back on their feet, we ask for support, and we will accept any form of help. Please consider donating to this fundraiser. We also humbly accept any other form of support, including: nonperishable food; toys, clothes or books for a three year old girl; job support- any leads for mom. If you are interested in supporting with nonmonetary donations please contact us.
All donations are going towards the mom and kid who lived in the property.
Thank you for visiting this page. Thank you for your love and support. If you have any special memories with us or with the Sausalito Floating home, it is a comfort to hear them.
