Who Belle Was

Belle was a gorgeous, smiley little baby.
She loved music — especially Ed Sheeran — it would calm her.
Her favourite time was bedtime: bath, cuddles, pyjamas, and a story.

She was so loved. So wanted. So precious.

And she was taken far too soon.

I don’t even know how to begin writing this, because no words will ever feel enough for what this family has been through.

Caitlyn and Clinton have lost their beautiful baby girl, Belle — and the way they lost her should never, ever have happened.

Belle was born on 7/7/25 after her mum survived a rare and life-threatening uterine rupture. It was already a miracle that both mum and baby made it through that. But what came after is something no family should ever have to live with.

At just 4 weeks old, Belle suffered a devastating hypoxic brain injury while in hospital care — an injury that should never have happened.

Her parents had to sit and watch their tiny baby suffer in ways no child ever should. Belle had over 60 seizures a day. Medication didn’t help. She could barely open her eyes. She couldn’t cry. She was in constant distress — and there was nothing they could do but hold her and watch.

And then they lost her.

Belle passed away on 3/10/25.

No parent should ever have to bury their child. But what makes this even harder is knowing this wasn’t just “one of those things.” There is an ongoing Procurator Fiscal investigation into her death. The people who were meant to protect Belle failed her.

And the suffering didn’t stop there.

Caitlyn was left in pain for months after Belle’s birth, her condition ignored, until eventually she had to have her womb removed because it had died internally. Alongside losing her baby, she has also lost the chance to carry another child.

This family has been completely broken.

Belle leaves behind three siblings who absolutely adored her — children now trying to understand how their baby sister is just… gone.

Right now, they are grieving, traumatised, and trying to survive the unimaginable.

They should not also be worrying about money.
