Please help us raise funds to support the family of Eimable Manirakiza to attend his coronial inquest in 2025/2026.
Four years after the loss of musician Eimable Manirakiza in 2021, his loved ones have finally been notified that the Coroners Court of Victoria will be conducting a coronial inquest into his passing. In late June of 2021, Eimable went missing in a state of acute mental health crisis. He remained missing for two and a half months before community search efforts located his body in early August of 2021.
Preparing for and enduring a coronial inquest into the death of a loved one can be a painful and often re-traumatising process. This can be especially difficult when the person who has passed away was also missing for an extended period. The circumstances of Eimable’s passing caused significant trauma and upheaval for Eimable’s family, and his mum Benigne and four of her six surviving children have since relocated to Boorloo/Perth in search of safety and stability. With the inquest looming, however, Benigne and her children will need to return to Naarm/Melbourne to be present at the Coroners Court of Victoria.
Benigne is a genocide survivor who came to Australia as part of a humanitarian refugee settlement program. She cares for her children, three of whom are school aged. She is currently unable to work due to chronic health conditions, and faces significant financial pressures. Attending the inquest in Melbourne will only be possible for Benigne and the family with community support.
Your donations will support:
- Flights and accommodation for Eimable’s mum and siblings to attend the directions hearing in Melbourne on 10 November 2025, and the inquest in 2026
- Incidental expenses related to supporting Eimable’s loved ones through the inquest
