On the afternoon of March 6, 2026, 13-year-old Ren Rivera received wonderful news; she had just been selected as a new member of the Hemphill Middle School cheerleading squad. It was a moment she had been excited about and proud to share with her family and friends.

Tragically, only a few hours later, Ren was killed in an automobile accident.

In an instant, a joyful day turned into unimaginable heartbreak. No parent is ever prepared for the sudden loss of a child. The grief is overwhelming, and the emotional and practical burdens that follow can feel impossible to face.

Ren’s family, members of our close-knit community, are now navigating the devastating loss of their daughter while also facing unexpected expenses that come with such a tragedy. Immediate, unplanned costs have arrived at a time when the family’s focus should simply be on mourning and remembering the life of their beloved child.

In a small rural community like ours, the loss of a young life touches everyone. Many of us know this family personally, and even those who do not feel the weight of this loss because Ren was one of our own, a bright young lady with a future full of promise.
