Just days before Christmas 2018 a tidal wave caused by explosions from nearby Anak Krakatau smashed into coastal towns in Lampung, Sumatra and Banten, Java. Among them were the villages of Banding, Rajabasa and Ujau. These villages hold a special place for those of us from the Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program of 2001-02 (AIYEP). For two months we were welcomed into their homes by the people of these three villages. We have never forgotten the kindness and hospitality of those families. Now that tragedy has hit we hope to make a small difference by collecting funds on their behalf. As soon as we can we will send these funds to the families via Yani, one of the AIYEP participants who lives in Lampung to help them with immediate needs, including clothes, food and medical supplies.
