Support for Faith Nygren
Donation protected
As many of you know, our dear friend Faith Nygren suffered a severe brain hemorrhage on May 21, 2019. She received prompt medical treatment and went through two surgical procedures and a two week ICU stay on life support followed by several weeks of inpatient rehabilitation.
We are very grateful to be able to report that she has had a remarkable recovery thus far that can be fairly described as miraculous. She is home with John and George and with her mother Loretta, who was able to temporarily relocate from the Bay Area to provide much needed support and childcare. Faith is still working with therapy services multiple times per week, but is doing much better than anyone anticipated.
We are also grateful that Faith has excellent health insurance and support through her job at Midland School. Her total medical bills are still being tallied but they are well over $1 million dollars, the vast majority of which will be covered by insurance. In spite of this, most of you probably know that there are significant financial costs to families who go through this sort of thing and the Nygrens are going to be responsible for tens of thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses.
As this drama was unfolding many many people came alongside John and Faith, coming to the hospital, providing meals and childcare, offering emotional support. Many of them (and many who were not able to be physically present) asked about how to help support them during this difficult and scary time and that is what this fundraising effort is for. The hope is to help defray some of the significant financial burden of this so that they can focus on getting Faith well without having to worry about money quite so much.
Faith and John have meant so much to all of us over the years it seems like we ought to be able to pull together and help them during this time of need. Thanks for giving what you can.
