Support for Ewan

My name is Steve Buczko. This is my 6 yo nephew Ewan Langson. Ewie lives in Melbourne with his mum Jess (my twin sister) and dad Alex, along with his older brothers Harry and Charlie. Today, Ewie was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Doctors have identified a tumor in his left humerus, along with some metastases in his lungs.

Less than a month ago he was just like any other Prep student, running around at playtime, impressing his teachers with his incredible science knowledge, complaining when he was bored and making everyone laugh with his wicked sense of humour...what started as an ache in his arm that just didn't go away, suddenly turned into a diagnosis that has turned the world as he knows it upside down.

This is any parent’s worst nightmare, and we are all absolutely devastated beyond words. Ewie will now face a long, painful and grueling road of treatment which will likely involve multiple rounds of chemo along with life-altering surgery. This is more than any child should have to bear, however he is from a strong, loving family and we will be supporting him every step of the way.

I have started this fund raiser as I know first-hand the challenges involved in supporting a child through the cancer treatment journey. Although life seems to screech to a halt; bills, mortgage repayments and other day-to-day expenses unfortunately do not.

Jess has dedicated the last 6 years to teaching, supporting and caring for the children in her classroom and now she sadly needs to step away from this in order to be by Ewie's side over the long battle ahead. She doesn't have the leave to cover this extended time away from the classroom and that means an additional financial burden that they will need to carry.

Many friends, family and members of the Carnegie Primary School community have reached out wanting to know how they can help and this is the kind of support that we know will make a huge difference to their lives, right now and in the long months ahead.

Jess created a fundraiser for my family in 2016 when our then-2 yo daughter was diagnosed with liver cancer, and it quite honestly kept our heads above water.
