Evan Perkins
was beloved by everyone who met him - passionate about his family and extremely talented. We will miss his hilarious jokes and positivity.
Evans Medical Story:
Evan Perkins, a doting husband, father of 2, stepfather of 3, and grandfather of 5 (with one due in two weeks) spent over a month in three different Colorado hospitals fighting stage 4 organ failure.
Evan then contracted pneumonia in the hospital because of the multiple immune-suppressing medications he was on, which led him to be unable to breathe. He was transferred to the ICU, placed on a ventilator, and put in a medically induced coma. Despite 10 different antibiotics and antifungals, the infection in his lungs did not respond. Most of his family members did not know he would never wake up again and did not get to say goodbye.

Evan's extended family living in other states joined by Zoom for important meetings with the medical team.
After two weeks in the ICU with no improvement, his family made the heart-wrenching decision to take him off life support. He passed on September 30th, 2022, at 6:38 pm., surrounded by his family.
We found some temporary tattoos in a backpack at the hospital so we gave Evvie his first tattoo! (despite his wishes, I'm sure)
Why we are requesting your help:
Barbara and Evan’s family are facing mounting medical bills, memorial bills, and debt, after a 45-day stay in the hospital. He was attached to multiple costly life-supporting machines.
Evan leaves behind two daughters who are in school (grad and law) and live off of student loans, and one son who is expecting a new baby.
He also leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Barbara, whom, in the last two years, has had a stroke and open heart surgery that forced her to retire while Evan continued working. She cannot drive herself anywhere due to the stroke, and taking care of their dog Sadie is difficult for her.

About Evan (onto the happier stuff):
Evan was the funniest and most positive person on the planet. Before going on the ventilator, he told his children he was “doing great!” so that he wouldn’t worry them. He was a family man. Evvie and Barb both had a great relationship with their ex-spouses and the entire extended family spent holidays together.

Evan was also an extremely talented builder.
He built every house that his family has ever lived in - from the ground up.
Evan's greatest accomplishment in life (besides his children, of course)
In the '90's, Evan dismantled a beautiful timber frame barn in New Hampshire, transported all of the pieces to Colorado, and rebuilt it in the mountains outside of Boulder using no nails or screws - only wooden pegs. In that home he raised his two children, Kelsey and Chris (with his ex-wife Leslie), who grew up playing and running around in the mountains.

Evan also loved boats and the ocean.
He spent his winters in Mexico on the Bay of Banderas with Barbara, sailing his beloved sailboat and chartering fishing trips for tourists. He spent his free time fixing up his boat and working on other projects like repairing his car (which he didn’t get to finish before he passed). Evan loved the water so much that he requested that his ashes be spread in the ocean, where he was the happiest. His love for being on the water was passed down to his children and step-children, who spend every Christmas in Mexico.

Evan was also an avid skier. He was a ski patrolman until he suffered a hip injury and had to get a hip replacement. He put his children in ski school at age 2, and they still ski and snowboard every weekend in the winter.
Please help our family during this unbelievably horrible and devastating time so that we don’t have to focus on how we will possibly pay his medical bills, memorial expenses, and daily expenses while dealing with our immense grief at the same time.
Any amount helps (even $5).
Thank you so so much.
Love,
