My name is Erica, and I am reaching out for support as I face a rare and aggressive kidney cancer called HLRCC. Since my diagnosis, my life has been turned upside down. I have had to take a medical leave from work and spend a lot of time in the hospital, which has made it a struggle to take care of my 5-year-old son Lyric and myself.
Right now, I am dealing with a 9cm tumor in my kidney and several affected lymph nodes. I am not a candidate for surgery because I need to start a systemic treatment to shrink everything down first. The treatment for this type of cancer has a 50-60% chance of being effective. The lymph node involvement has caused breathing problems and led to multiple hospital visits. This has made daily life even more challenging, both physically and emotionally, as I try to manage my health and care for Lyric at the same time.
Lyric is five years old and just started kindergarten. He is a very active little boy, full of energy and curiosity. We share a strong bond, and he means everything to me. Navigating this diagnosis and treatment on my own has been overwhelming, but I am determined to do everything I can for Lyric.
Right now, I am struggling to keep up with basic expenses like rent, groceries, phone, car payments, and insurance. Without a support network to lean on, I am asking for prayers, strength, and any financial help to get us through this difficult time. Every bit of support will help me focus on my health and caring for Lyric, so we can look forward to a brighter future together.
