This week was supposed to be the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us. I just started my first week of law school, my boyfriend is beginning his final semester of paramedic school, and we just moved into our new home this week.
Then, yesterday, everything changed.
A tornado came through Dover, Delaware, bringing the kind of severe weather we rarely expect to experience here. During the storm, a large tree came down directly onto my boyfriend’s car. Based on the amount of damage, we are expecting that the vehicle will likely be considered a total loss.
For him, losing his car means much more than losing a vehicle. He is an EMT and firefighter who serves our community while working toward becoming a paramedic. He relies on his car to get to work, school, clinicals, and wherever else he is needed. He has spent his time helping other people during their emergencies, and now, unexpectedly, he is the one who could use some help.
The timing has made this especially difficult. With both of us in school, a brand-new move, and all of the expenses that come with starting a new semester and a new home, we simply weren't prepared to take on the cost of replacing a vehicle.
We are raising money to help cover the expenses that insurance may not, including the remaining financial loss on his vehicle, transportation in the meantime, and hopefully a down payment toward a reliable replacement so he can continue getting to work and finish his final semester of paramedic school.
We understand that everyone has their own expenses and challenges, so there is absolutely no expectation to donate. Even sharing this fundraiser would mean a great deal to us.
This was an incredibly unexpected way to start what should have been an exciting week, but we're grateful that no one was hurt. Any help getting him safely back on the road and allowing him to continue serving the community would mean more than we can say.
Thank you for reading, donating, or simply sharing. ❤️
