Support for Elijah's Family in Crisis

Hi. My name is Julie and I’m fundraising for my daughter’s family. My daughter’s name is Lindsay and she and her husband, Cory, have two sons, Castiel, 8, and Elijah, 5. Over a month ago, Elijah was playing outside, his favorite place, and my daughter noticed he was standing still (very unusual). She called to him and he didn’t respond. She went to him and he was drooling out of one side of his mouth, his left arm was limp and he couldn’t speak. They went to the ER and he was sent to UW Children’s hospital for further evaluation. He also had a seizure at the hospital. A team of doctors worked on his case. They sent him home after 2 days with medication. That evening he had another seizure and was taken back to the hospital. He stayed a couple days and went back home with different medications. After a few weeks at home, they were seeing a decline again. After many different diagnosis, he’s been diagnosed with an autoimmune response to viral encephalitis. He’s been in the hospital again for about 1 1/2 weeks and they’re not sure when he’s coming home. He has been in rehab for a couple days as he’s lost weight and strength. It has been an emotional rollercoaster for the family.

During this, Cory has not been able to work in order to help care for Elijah, while Lindsay stayed home to ensure Castiel could finish the school year.
