My name is Claude, and I am raising funds to support my 75-year-old mother during an incredibly difficult time.

Recently, a video of my mother inside a Walmart store began circulating online and quickly went viral. In the video, she is being confronted by store security and accused of stealing a 2-litre soft drink.

What people don’t see in that short clip is the full context.

Five years ago, my mother was struck by a vehicle while she was a pedestrian. Since that accident she has had serious mobility limitations and must use a walker to move around. Because of this, she cannot push a shopping cart and cannot carry a basket while walking.

Instead, she places items she intends to purchase on the seat of her walker as she shops. It is simply the only way she can shop independently.

While she was in the vegetable aisle, security approached her and accused her of stealing the soft drink sitting on her walker. She had not attempted to leave the store and was still actively shopping.

The confrontation was extremely stressful and humiliating for her.

Our family is focused on supporting her through her health challenges, but the stress and attention from this incident have made an already difficult time even heavier.
