My name is Jasmine, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart as I care for my father, Edward Cadiz, during his final days. Edward was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, and after surgery, we learned the cancer had spread to his liver. His health has declined rapidly, and he is now in hospice care at home. Unfortunately, Medicare will not cover the hospice facility or the in-home care he desperately needs, and he does not qualify for Medicaid. I am doing my best to keep him safe and comfortable here with me, while also working to support our family and keep a roof over our heads. This has placed us in an incredibly difficult position, both emotionally and financially.

My father is not just my parent—he is my hero. He raised me on his own, with unwavering love and strength, working for the City of Chicago for over 40 years. He has always put our family first, never asking for anything in return. Edward is the most gentle and selfless person I know, and he has given everything to ensure I had a good life. Now, as cancer takes more of him each day, all I want is to make sure he is cared for with the dignity, compassion, and love he has always shown to others.

We are seeking support to cover the costs of in-home care, medical supplies, mortgage payments, food, and funeral expenses. Edward’s greatest wish is to have his family by his side when he passes, surrounded by love and comfort. Any help will allow us to honor his wish and provide the care he deserves in his final days.
