Over the past week, Ed and Kelcey Schubel have found themselves in a situation no family ever plans for. At just 24 weeks pregnant, Kelcey was flown by helicopter to Baltimore after going into premature labor. She is now 25 weeks along and remains in the hospital on strict bed rest as doctors do everything they can to keep their baby boy safely growing for as long as possible.
This is an incredibly emotional and uncertain time. Each day is being taken one step at a time as they focus on what matters most: giving their little boy the best chance at a healthy start. While they are deeply grateful for the outstanding doctors and nurses caring for them, the reality of a prolonged hospital stay and a likely NICU journey brings overwhelming and unexpected challenges. As a teacher and a nurse, both Ed and Kelcey spend their lives caring for, nurturing, and helping others. Right now, however, they are unable to work and are focused entirely on the health and safety of their baby.
No matter when their sweet boy arrives, whether very soon or closer to his due date, as we all pray for, the medical care and time away from work will create significant financial strain. This season of pregnancy was supposed to be filled with joyful preparations: finishing the nursery, celebrating a baby shower, and getting ready to welcome their son home. Instead, they are spending their days in a hospital room, holding onto hope and doing everything they can for the little boy who is already so deeply loved.
If you feel led to help, any contribution will go toward medical expenses, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with a prolonged hospital and NICU stay. Just as meaningful is sharing this page so others who care about this family can support them as well. Most importantly, please keep this family and their precious baby boy in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for surrounding this family with love, encouragement, and support during such an incredibly difficult time.
