My husband, Durand Dodson, is facing the toughest battle of his life. While still undergoing chemotherapy for stage 3 colorectal cancer, he suffered a brain bleed and developed a severe infection in his spine that has now traveled to his brain. These complications have left him unable to care for himself, and he’s been hospitalized for an extended period. I am living at the hospital with him, doing everything I can to support him through this frightening and uncertain time.

Durand was recently approved for disability, but those benefits won’t begin until January. In the meantime, we are struggling to keep up with household bills, including rent and power, and I am relying on whatever I can find to eat while staying by his side. The stress of these financial burdens, on top of Durand’s critical health issues, has made this holiday season especially difficult for us. Christmas is the furthest thing from my mind as I focus on helping Durand heal and keeping our home afloat.
