It is with a tremendously heavy heart that I have to write this out.
My father Douglas Waxer passed away today June 26th at 11 in the morning. He had been in the hospital for the last 17 days battling what started as pneumonia and continued to evolve into sepsis. He had a chest tube inserted last week to drain fluid from his lungs. It helped in the beginning but before removal it wasn’t working effectively anymore. Monday morning he called me at 7 am and was feeling unwell. His blood pressure had been very low over night and they had moved him to the CCU. We spoke for 20 minutes that morning and ended the call with me telling him I loved him and would be up there when I got my son up and ready for the day. An hour later I received a call from the critical care doctor informing me he had taken a turn for the worse and had to be intubated. From Monday morning until Wednesday morning he went through a lot. Central lines, arterial lines, chest tube, ng tube placement, countless blood draws, countless medications, he was maxed out on every possible medication they could give him. He was in septic shock and his organs were shutting down. His kidneys and liver were the first to take the hit. Last night around I received a call that his blood pressure was getting critically low and they advised me to get there quickly. I arrived at about 4am and was able to sit with him for awhile and talk to him and let him know it was okay to let go he had fought so hard for so long.. he held on until he was able to see his grandson for him to say goodbye. His heart stopped at 11:10.
Obviously this is not only emotionally devastating to my brother, my son, and myself, but it also comes with many other hardships.
I will be having a memorial service before he is cremated. Details on that to come soon.
Paying for not just these services but also daily living expenses for Dylan, myself, and my son are going to quickly become overwhelming. As head of the household my father always managed these things and now it’s on me to step up and take over. It’s going to be a very difficult journey but I am so blessed that I had such an incredible father that taught me so many things in life. He was a tremendous friend, father, and an even better grandfather. There will not be a day that passes where we don’t miss him.
Anything at all you’re able to donate will make a difference for our family. Thank you so much.
