For those who don't know yet, our dad, Doug, had an accident while deer hunting yesterday. The strap on the tree stand he was getting into broke, causing him to fall to the ground. Luckily, Jan was there and seen it happen. So she was able to immediately render aid to him. It happened right outside of Flandreau, so Jessica, Jake, and Randy were able to be there in a matter of minutes to help too. The medical team on scene dispatched a helicopter and he was flown to Avera, where he currently is. As of right now, we know he broke both of his heels, broke his arm, fractured one of his vertebrae, and has a small bruise on his brain. He has been awake and knows what is going on since the accident happened. We thank God he had no serious brain trauma!
He went into surgery this morning to repair his arm. They also might have to do surgery on his heels but are going to wait a couple days before deciding. We are waiting to hear more on the injury to his back. The bruise on his brain should heal on it's own. The doctor is going to check on it again today.
Covid regulations limit the visitors to 1 per 24hrs. Jan is currently by his side. Please keep him in your prayers, as he is in a lot of pain and has a long road to recovery.
He will be very limited to what he is able to do for the foreseeable future. Which will be hard for him, as many of you know, he is a busy, hardworking man who does not like to sit still! With our dad being self employed, we would greatly appreciate any donations to help with his expenses. He isn't one to ask for a handout, but Jessica and I want to help him in anyway possible to make things easier for him. Thank you.
