Support for Dora Mengel

My name is Sarah Kurkowski and I am putting this go fund me together for my mom, Dora Mengel, who recently suffered a severe stroke and needs urgent help funding her medical care. Here is her story.

On August 9th, 2023, Dora Lynn Mengel, suffered a major stroke. This medical emergency occurred while she was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), tending to a patient within their home.

Even though emergency medical services were immediately called, the stroke caused significant impairment to Dora’s physical abilities and has left her requiring constant medical assistance and intervention and unable to work.

Dora has been staying at a local skilled nursing facility, working on her rehabilitation, but the progress has been slow, and her physicians are not sure how much progress can be made.

As a result of this slow progress, Dora’s health insurance company has refused to continue payment on her therapy at the skilled nursing facility. Sadly, Dora still requires a lot of rehabilitation and assistance to take care of herself and because of this, it is not safe or practical for her to return home.

Since Dora and her husband, Robert, are down to a lone source of income, this situation has created a financial hardship for their family. It is hard to imagine the out-of-pocket costs that have been incurred thus far, coupled with how expensive her continued care and rehabilitation expenses will continue to be. The private-pay rate for Dora to continue receiving treatment at the skilled nursing facility exceeds $400 per day, without any insurance reimbursement or coverage.

Dora’s family is working hard to care for her in the same way she had lovingly cared for those she helped while working as a CNA. While it is never easy to ask others for help, we hope that you can find it in your heart to help Dora and her family while she continues to navigate this medical journey.
