For those of you who know us, know that we love our Dolores to the ends of the earth. She is our first baby together that we got when she was just two years old. A regular ol’ Brockton street cat (or so she says).
Now 9 years old, we found a lump on her belly and brought her to the Vet Urgent Care. Wednesday 3/4 we were told it is likely mammary cancer that potentially metastasized to her lungs, but they did not do any imaging. Next day, I reached out to our normal vet and they are unable to perform what was needed. Come to yesterday, John and I (along with Dolo) met with Dr Townsend at Westbridge Vet for a surgery consult. He confirmed with the other vet that it is definitely consistent with mammary cancer and then did an X-ray of her lungs. There is a small spot and they are unsure if it is cancerous or just a spot of chronic bronchitis. While waiting for those results, we are on a waitlist for a first surgery to remove her mammary chain which then will be the biopsy needed to confirm if actually cancer or some fluke thing.
This has all been a LOT; emotionally and financially. Before the surgery, we are already at $1,000. For surgery we are quoted $4667-$5188, which is only for one side. If cancer and had spread; we would be double that for the other side.
I know plenty of people that think we are crazy for spending this money on an animal, but she’s our baby. She is acting fine, not showing any signs of pain. Eating sleeping and pooping fine. If this can help her have more good years, we want to move forward and enjoy our time with our sweet angel baby.
I am just looking for some help covering the costs of the vet bills, and if the next surgery is needed- that.
